Hi Friend! International accolades, new leadership, and an expanding hydraulic test facility. The past few months have gone swimmingly, and this month we're excited about kicking off a new fish passage study with white sturgeon.
This month we're excited about kicking off a new fish passage study at Natel HQ, working with white sturgeon as part of a DOE-funded project led by the Fish Conservation Physiology Lab at UC Davis. The past few months have gone swimmingly, too, marked by new leadership, international accolades, and an expanding hydraulic test facility. Here are a few of the highlights:
🌟 Bill Malusjoined the Natel team as CEO. Bill has been a respected leader in the hydropower industry for more than 25 years and we are thrilled to have him onboard to accelerate our growth.
📣 We attended and spoke at events in the US, Canada, Switzerland and the UK and are looking forward to a full in-person and online calendar. Next on the horizon, Abe Schneider will present on Wed, July 31, at a virtual summit on river connectivity hosted by the US Dept of Energy. Register here to learn more about how FishSafe turbines function as downstream fish passageways.
FishSafe runners are a straightforward and cost-effective repowering solution, one that minimizes changes to civil works and offers the added benefit of safe downstream fish passage, cutting costs associated with fine exclusion screens. Learn more in this webinar with Gia Schneider & Harry Driscoll!
The NHA's POWERHOUSE released an article presenting Natel's Monroe Drop site as a compelling case study for how hydropower can prioritize both power generation and sustainability.
German-language magazine zek Hydropublished an article about Natel's FishSafe turbine designs and our collaboration with German manufacturer DIVE Turbine. Flip to page 58 to read.
French-language magazine Puissance Hydro examined how Natel's FishSafe designs, particularly as manufactured by DIVE, could improve downstream fish passage in Europe.
Sept 15-19, American Fisheries Society Annual Meeting—CTO Abe Schneider and Staff Engr Fish Safety Sterling Watson will present on Hydropower Turbine Innovation at the Intersection of Science, Policy, and Engineering.
Sept 25-27, Canadian WaterPower Week— Look for CEO Bill Malus, CCO Gia Schneider, CTO Abe Schneider and Staff Engr Fish Safety Sterling Watson in Ottawa, ON, and don't miss Abe and Sterling's presentation on Turbine Design for Safe Downstream Fish Passage.

One bonus perk of re-branding is that we got to make new t-shirts. 😊 In this photo, several team members rep for Natel while celebrating a late-night milestone.
We're excited to be expanding the team as well! In addition to CEO Bill Malus, we welcomed Mechanical Technician Schuyler McAlister, Mechanical Engineering Intern Jonas Plichta and Research Intern Ysabel Chu to Natel this quarter. We're still on the lookout for exceptional talent to join our engineering team, so let us know if you're looking.
