American Eel from Anthropocene Magazine

Journalist Lela Nargi interviewed both Gia and Abe Schneider for an article in Anthropocene Magazine about need to sustainably advance hydropower. As Abe says in the article, FishSafe runners present “a phenomenal generational opportunity to modernize our hydropower fleet with turbines that cause less harm."

Earlier this month Bill Malus and Pat Donahue attended Ontario Waterpower Association's Power of Water Canada meeting in Niagara, engaging with industry colleagues and partners and learning about Indigenous perspectives.

 

In March Gia Schneider and Jessica Penrod exhibited at the CEATI Hydropower Conference, highlighting the long-term cost savings and fish protection benefits of FishSafe turbines.

Meanwhile, Abe Schneider presented on advancements in fish-friendly turbine design at the VGBE & VÖU River Management & Ecology and Renexpo Interhydro event in Salzburg, Austria, and then joined Sterling Watson at Fish Passage in Yichang, Hubei Province, China, where Sterling received an Outstanding Innovation Award for Natel's FishSafe RHT blade design.

Blue Tech innovators in Alameda came together for SF Climate Week.

Back in California, Natel co-hosted a BlueTech showcase with our marine energy friends at CalWave on Earth Day, celebrating local innovation in the blue economy with various companies, sponsors, and community members.

 

Abe spoke as a panelist at Stanford Climate Week in a discussion hosted by the Stanford Energy Club on  driving climate action and innovation.

 

Earlier this spring, Gia joined Kate Stirr and Emrat Nur (Tatiana) Marzan to advocate for hydropower in Washington, DC, at NHA's Water Power Week, highlighting the importance of fish passage solutions like FishSafe turbines.

This summer, you can find us at NHA's California Regional Meeting in Sacramento, June 24-26, and the International Association for Hydro-Environment Research World Congress, June 22-27 in Singapore where Abe will present.

 

This fall we'll be in Vienna for SUSHP, Ottawa for Canadian Waterpower Week, Grenoble for Business Hydro, Pittsburgh for NHA's Clean Currents, and Thessaloniki for Hydro 2025.
